Extra Credit YO!

Othello and Tangled, or when you put both words together its Otheangled.
These two movies are about love, and about people who fall in love, and they have different backgrounds.
Things that these two films have in common.
1.  They are both love stories, like i already said
2.  Both of these stories have a king in the movie, so its around the same time frame
3.  People die in both movies. (but eugene comes back to life)
4.  There is a lot of fighting in the movie, like sword fighting
Things that these two movies dont have in common
1.  Othello has a lot of explicit scenes, and i am glad Tangled does not....  AWKWARD!
2.  The male main characters in the book, one is white and the other guy is black
3.  Tangled has a happy ending, and Othello has a harsh ending
4.  Othello mixes in with race, and Tangled everybody is basically white.

The Motif from both sides of the book
Tangled:
The Motif of this Movie is the flower.  All throughout the story, the flower shows up.  But Rapunzil doesn't notice it, she thinks its just another flower.  Finally when she leaves the castle with Eugene, and sees the town, and see's the lights. When she is back at home,  She connects the dots and recognizes she is the lost Princess

Othello:  The Motif in this story is The handkerchief that Othello gave to Desdemona.  It represents The love between both of them.  But when Othello sees that  Cassio has it.  It all goes down from there! So the obvious thing to do is kill Desdemona, For something another man did.

The  chiaroscuro in the movie, and in the film.
Tangled:  You can tell this between Rapunzil, and her " Mother".  You can see that Rapunzil is really out going, and she is the Ray of sunshine in the movie.  And her mother is The darker side.  She is really the one that covers Rapunzils eyes, and doesn't let her shine.  She just says stay inside forever.  ( Bad mom award!)

Othello:  Well if you want to be kind of obvious
Desdemona is Light, and Othello is Dark (skin tone wise).

Theme To both of these Movies
Tangled:  Dont let anybody tell you who you are.  Be yourself

Othello:  Before you go and make a final decision, make sure you always here both sides of the story

The day was Finally here! My birthday had finally come! its been a while since i had a good birthday, thats why i have been planning this day for 4 months. I finally had my license, so it was time for my car.  After months of persuading my dad, he finally said yes.  I got to sleep in and didnt go to school, it was my birthday, why would i want to be there? We got to the dealership at 12:30 and the searching began. Which kind of car should i get? A sports car, a used one, and brand new one? I kept looking at my dad to see what he was doing, and he would just be looking and smiling at me.  I have a feeling this will be a great day!

Jarvis sat, deeply moved. Whether because this was his son, whether because this was almost the last act of his son, he could not say. Whether because there was some quality in the words, that too he could not say, for he had given little time in his life to the savouring and judging of words. Whether because there was some quality in the ideas, that too he could not say, for he had given little time to study of these particular matters. He rose and went up the stairs to his room, and was glad to find his wife not there, for here was a sequence not to be interrupted. He picked up the Abraham Lincoln and went down to the study again, and there opened the book at the Second Inaugural Address of the great president. He read it through, and felt with a sudden lifting of the spirit that here was a secret unfolding, a track picked up again. There was increasing knowledge of a stranger. He began to understand why the picture of this man was in the house of his son, and the multitude of books.

Gender roles play a big role in this book.  In the beginning, you see that women are under appreciated.  In the first chapter, it says that women tend the field.  and usually its the men who do that.  That is the first time i have seen the roles being switched around.  In the second chapter it opens with a girls walking to Stephens house.  the gender roles are really changed in this book.  from what we have read, men grow up to do more things, and be bigger leaders.  Women on the other hand, if the are wives they have to support the men no matter what.  And they also have to do most of the dirty work.  It also seems like men are cleaner, cause Stephen is going to Johannesburg to see a sick girl, and on the train ride.  He has trouble sitting by some of the women cause they are dressed wrong.  Time has changed obviously and i hope its still not like that over there in Africa.

The main characters in LOTF and The power of one didn't have power right away.  They earned it, but the difference is that Ralph lost the power to Jack, and Pk went through the movie trying to earn it.  Ralph had the power to rule over everybody on the island.  But PK gained power through out the movie, like the power to fight, and the power to learn.  The bully at the school in the beginning of the movie had the power like Jack.  The Bully in the movie maintained the power cause he was the oldest and he was ruthless one, he was also in favor of what all the other kids wanted, that's why he was so popular.  That goes the same way for Jack, he gained the power, because the other kids wanted to hunt and have fun, and Ralph wasnt like that.  In the power of one, the power structure is made up of 1. the whites, and the ones with knowledge (education).  IN The LOTF it s the one who has the conch shell.
